Preparing a Source Pack for Chinese Encyclopedias: Facts, Evidence and Compliance

Rules differ among Chinese encyclopedia platforms, but a high-quality source pack follows common principles: verifiable facts, direct claim-to-source mapping, neutral language and clear rights. Its purpose is not to pile up awards and selling points but to help reviewers determine whether each fact belongs in an encyclopedia context. Always check the target platform’s current rules before submission.

Document the legal entity, registration information, Chinese and English brand forms, historical names, founding date, headquarters and official website. Attach a public source and review date to each. Where company and brand names differ, explain the relationship and do not merge facts from a group, subsidiary and product.

Break proposed content into atomic claims. Each row should include the claim, source title, publisher, date, URL, passage location, independence and notes. Owned materials may support basic details such as contact information, but market position, influence and significant events need stronger independent sources. Remove inferences the source does not directly support.

• Record creator, rights holder, license scope, original file and written authorization
• Do not download and re-upload images from news sites, social platforms or search results
• Verify logos, portraits and product images separately; trademark ownership is not automatically an upload license
• Retain submission versions, source snapshots and edit history for later verification

Remove promotional terms such as best, leading or first unless precisely supported and permitted. Do not invent people, awards, clients or operating data, and do not use multiple accounts to manipulate review. At acceptance, verify every sentence, source accessibility, entity relationship, date basis, rights and tone. When evidence is insufficient, wait rather than fill gaps with weak sources.
